A new project is on the go! …and I still haven’t finished my last one. Master studies! I didn’t actually know what the real definition of a master study is, and I didn’t want to make myself look like an arse by studying something that wasn’t by a ‘master’ by definition, so I did some research;
“Old Master” (or “old master“) is a painter of skill who worked in Europe before about 1800, or a painting by such an artist.”
-Wikipedia, because Wikipedia knows all.
Then I cracked on with some painting;
I really enjoyed doing this. I find it fun, trying to work out the colours of the tiniest detail. It’s fascinating to see how one colour can look so different depending on it’s neighbours. I’m a strong believer in the fact that there is no such thing as colours existing on their own. A colour only exists because of what surrounds it, and how the eye therefore perceives it.
I immediately started another study of a second painting by Bouguereau, which I’m sure I will post shortly. This one is really tough because of all the flesh tones and similar colours going on. I won’t lie; I’ve picked about 4 colours so far. I’d lose my mind otherwise.
Updates sure to follow on this project. (And my unfinished Chicago project.)
